About Us
What is now Toujours Midi Nantucket
began in 1990 as a small French shop named Le Cherche Midi. The original store was named after a street in Paris known for its quaint shops and fabulous restaurants, as well as an obscure idiom meaning “a found hour; discovering unexpected time”. In 2008 Laurie Herrmann took ownership of the shop and renamed it Toujours Midi. While the literal translation “always noon” may not make much sense, Laurie wanted to convey to her loyal customers that the shop would “always” be around, honoring its French roots while blending with Nantucket style.
The shop has evolved over the years to reflect both the changes in popular décor and Laurie’s distinct taste. Her keen eye for the unique and timeless, as well as all things fun and whimsical, continues to delight both long-time loyal customers and first time visitors. She commonly hears ”Why have I never been in here before?” and “This is the best shop on the island!”.
